The Sixth Form Centre provides a full-time education. Students are expected to be punctual in attending each morning and to all lessons, and are required to remain on site during the day. Please note the following:
Students arriving more than 5 minutes late must sign in at the Sixth Form Centre reception stating their name, time of arrival and reason for lateness.
In the case of unforeseen absences, e.g. illness, parents/carers should notify the school before 9:00 am by telephone (228888) or email (sixthform@education.gg) on each day of absence. If we are not informed, the administration office will contact parents/carers.
We encourage each student to aim for 100% attendance but understand that for unforeseeable reasons, e.g. illness, this may not always be attainable. However, attendance over the year should ideally be at least 95%. Students whose attendance falls below this level may be placed on contract and risk entry to external examinations. We have a staged attendance intervention and support process; parents/carers will be kept informed, and their support at home requested, in cases of low attendance.
In the rare cases where a student’s attendance falls below 85%, their attendance may no longer be required. This decision will be made on a case-by-case basis according to the individual’s circumstances. In the case where a student is no longer required to attend, should they still wish to sit examinations, they will need to submit payment of examination fees before their entries as an external candidate are made.
Parents and carers are advised that family holidays taken in term time can have a serious impact on learning, progress and wellbeing. In accordance with the States of Guernsey Attendance Policy, absences for the purposes of a holiday will be unauthorised. Requests for Leave of Absence should be made to the Principal using the Leave of Absence Request Form below. Please allow as much notice as possible and at least two weeks for any known intended absence.
Attendance at The Sixth Form Centre is excellent with an annual average of over 96%. Attending regularly and on time is crucial for students' academic development and wellbeing.
